Top Ten Summer Holidays

top ten summer holidaysOur pick of the best holiday destinations for July & August 2012
According to recent research holidaymakers are delaying their holidays until after the Olympic Games, which finish on the 12th August this year in the UK. If you’re one of those hoping to hold out for some last minute holidays for after the Olympics have finished, then the next question may be ‘where to go’? Read our guide below to where we’d recommend in July and August and where’s likely to offer some bargains!

Greece
Greece and the Greek Islands in particular are always a popular choice for Summer holidays from the UK with a relatively short flying time (approx 4 hours) and guaranteed sunshine. However, with Greece being in the news so much lately some holidaymakers may have been put off.  Greece’s tourism industry has however issued assurances that it is safe to travel to Greece, and has encouraged holidaymakers to book the wide range of holiday offers available right now (read more on the HH Blog: ‘ Greece Holidays:business as usual ‘). Our advice: There are some great deals available to Greece right now, just make sure you book with a reputable travel firm who is ATOL/ABTA/TTA bonded such as those advertising on HolidayHoliday.co.uk.

Spain
Benidorm is a firm favourite for Summer holidays with the British with it’s protected beaches and warm sea waters, plus English pubs and plenty of nightlife, not to mention the aquapark and theme park here. The Costa Del Sol and the Costa Blanca in Spain are especially popular with miles of beaches and modern amenities for travellers, plus a wide choice of hotels and accommodation. Other popular areas in Spain include the Balearic Islands of Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza all pulling in the crowds this Summer, with direct flights from many airlines. If you’re a clubber and fancy some nightlife Ibiza is the obvious option, with families and couples travelling to Majorca and the slightly quieter Menorca this Summer.

Bulgaria
Last month a quick survey by the Post Office on holiday costs in resort found that Bulgaria was the cheapest holiday destination this year for essential items whilst on holiday such as food and drinks. Couple this with the current holiday deals available for Bulgaria and you’re onto a winner! Bulgaria has seen its popoularity increase in recent years due to low costs and the strength of its holiday resorts such as Sunny Beach. If you’re looking for a cheap week away with the family Bulgaria won’t disappoint.

HolidayHoliday currently has some special offers for Bulgaria! Save £180pp! : Half Board at the 4* Hotel Fenix in Sunny Beach Bulgaria starts from only £339pp for a week in July inclusive of flights, hotel, transfers and luggage. Departs from various UK airports – Call now for this limited offer on 0844 892 3128 (calls charged at only 3p a min).

Turkey
Perhaps an obvious choice for many holidaymakers this year, Turkey continues to be popular with UK tourists, partly due to the number of package holidays available, the direct flights and the modern holiday resorts aswell as the experience of culture and history in Turkey. It was also flagged up by the Post Office in its recent holiday costs barometer report as a cost effective place to go on holiday, especially with the strength of the pound. In fact, the survey found that prices in Marmaris have dropped 22% on last year! Choose from well known resorts such as Marmaris, Olu deniz, Anytalya, Bodrum and Gumbet for sparkling blue sea waters and warm relaxing beaches.

Portugal
Portugal and especially the Algarve offer a haven for holidaymakers during the Summer months. The good thing about the Algarve is that there are quieter more peaceful resorts to choose from aswell as livelier ones, so if you want to just escape and get away from it all the Algarve has the ability to offer that. Holiday resorts in the Algarve such as Albufeira offer a combination of beautiful beaches and nightlife, whilst Alvor offers a taste of the real Portugal.

Florida
Florida in August is hot, humid and packed. But if you’re limited to school holidays and the kids really want to go then Florida and especially Disneyworld is a once in a lifetime experience. The parks are open late in Summer and the crowds start thinning out towards the back end of August . Just make sure you drink lots of water each day to keep yourself hydrated and wear lots of sunscreen!.

Canary Islands
Ever popular, the Canary Islands of Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria are the most popular with their year round sunshine, warm climate and little rainfall. If you want guaranteed sunshine and modern amenities then this is the place to go. Great for families, islands such as Tenerife offer a range of hotels, many with all inclusive options and kids clubs plus lots of activities to try nearby. If you holiday in Los Christianos/Playa De Las Americas area don’t miss the Siam Water Park, it’s fab!

Mexico
We wouldn’t always recommend Mexico during the Summer holidays as it’s very hot and Mexico is actually best visited between October/November and June generally. But with Virgin Airways’ new flights to Cancun from July this year you may find there are some hot deals for Mexico coming up! Also bear in mind it is an important year for the Mayan Calendar with the end of the world looming so grab the chance to see the stunning ancient Mayan sites and the white Caribbean sands of Mexico before it’s too late ;-)

Croatia
Lastly but by no means least, Croatia has seen a boom in tourism more recently as holidaymakers discover it’s charms. Don’t go here if you want a fine white sandy beach as Croatia’s beaches are primarily pebbly/stony beaches. However, do go here if you want to experience the stunning coastline, the colourful underwater reefs, its mediterranean climate with dry hot Summers and its culture and history. A romantically beautiful setting can be found in Croatia, and with lots of new holiday packages to Croatia this year from many operators there are lots of holidays to choose from. Ask our holiday holiday experts to help you find your ideal holiday to Croatia this year.
